Outside Pixie Stix Cabin [Saturday, Late Morning]

There was something Effy liked about staying up all night. Seeing the day start from what still felt, to her, like the closing of another one. The strangest things appealed to her, and could easily occupy her thoughts like that. For hours, sometimes.

It was possible... (okay, yes probable) that Effy hadn't bothered to sober up, and she was still slightly drunk from her night out. It put her in a lighter, if odder, mood than usual.

Half-drunk or not, it was still around about breakfast time, and after making her toast in the cabin, she took it outside to eat on the steps. Hangover hadn't yet hit, and she was warding it off as long as possible. Until it did, she was going to enjoy the sun.

"I thought your trusted me," he said, raising an eyebrow. "Taking that back?"

Effy shook her head, a smirk still gracing her lips. Not taking it back, just showing some skepticism when it came to this particular proclamation.

"Just... Seem unusually sure you know how my night feels to me."

"Well, you won't tell me so I have to guess, don't I?" he pointed out. "Set me straight, if you're so against assumptions."

"Told you it was hot," she pointed out. "Never actually asked for anything else."

Probably because he didn't need to.

"Hot in what way?" he wondered, taking a drink from that water and smiling as he did.

"Degrees," she answered, teasing of course. "Must've been at least twenty six." Really, making a wild guess at this muggy country's temperature.

"Twenty six?" Oh wait, she was going metric. "Too hot for you, British girl? Might have to find someone slower, more to your tastes, then."

Effy rolled her eyes mildly, leaning in for a lower, "I wasn't objecting, you notice." Just mentioning.

"Not into slow. Just not as interesting."

Alex smirked at her before taking a few swallows of the water just so he didn't answer right away. He eventually did, though.

"You look like you're getting too old for nights out," he pointed out, glancing up and down at her and smiling again. "Might need to chill."

"No. I don't." That was an easy, probably predictable response. "That what you think still being awake means? Really?"

"No but you do look pretty tired." She didn't, not really, but what fun would saying that be? "Like you wanna take a nap or something. Want me to leave you alone so you can take a nap?"

Effy eyed him. That'd be a clearly conveyed, but silent 'fuck no'. No napping needed.

"Been doing this sort of thing since I was twelve. Never needed to nap before school." Although, she did bunk whatever classes she could get away with.

"Learn to take a joke, Effy," he said, shaking his head at that glare of hers and looking away. "Might be a helpful thing."

And it stop irritation from spiking at his joking, once again, getting taken seriously.

Didn't take much encouragement to drop that look and sigh. Far too nicely buzzed to waste it getting into stupid shit with him today.

"Relax. I'm not throwing some sort of tantrum." She could take a joke, thank you. Sometimes. "Far too much effort." Might not need a nap, but that didn't mean she felt like arguing with him.

"I'm relaxed," he said, still looking away while he actually tried to relax. That irritation kept jumping up quicker and quicker lately. If was the type to get concerned, he would have been concerned.

"You're never relaxed," she countered, but brought her hand up to the back of his neck. "Not really." But she'd keep trying to tell him to try it.

Truthfully, Effy only was at moments like this when she was a few hairs past tipsy.

"Sometimes I am," he argued weakly because he was too busy leaning back into her hand. "I have been before. Sometimes."

"Name one," she told him pressing back against the lean he was putting in. "When was the last time?"

This was partly her own curiosity, partly because thinking about a time he was relaxed, might actually in turn help cultivate that feeling right now.

"I relax when I'm asleep," he said after a moment. "I've relaxed with you before. I think I was half in your lap, once. And I relaxed."

Maybe? He couldn't really remember but he thought he'd relaxed around her a time or two.

"Me and sleep, huh?" Effy hardly thought she was a relaxing person to be around all the time. She wasn't that oblivious to her own flaws. But at least someone seemed to feel it could be that way sometimes. It was something.

"I'm flattered."

Alex laughed and finished his water while being careful not to jostle the hand on his neck. "Two things I really like. Why wouldn't they both relax me?"

Effy twitched her shoulders in a shrug and her lips moved in a kind of half-smile as she dragged her fingertips down the back of his neck.

It was simple, really. The answer to that. Sleep was natural. Easy. Effy... Not so simple and easy to deal with, and she knew it. Even her own mother found her too intense to actually be relaxing.

"Not usually listed as one of my talents."

"I couldn't have guessed that," Alex said dryly, closing his eyes and snickering. "Listed talent or not, it's true."

Well, most of the time. Sometimes she did anything but relax him but he figured that was true for him too. They usually got back to relaxing.

"You can't say you don't think it's true. You've seen me relax."

Effy inclined her head in a nod, adding a "Yep," since he had his eyes closed and everything.

She twitched her lips again as she decided how to continue, and turned her head in to rest her forehead against his shoulder. "It's... nice." There was a little daily dose of honesty for him. Seeing that sort of display of trust meant more to her than any number of meaningless words.

"It's nice?" He wasn't teasing her, he was actually surprised she'd said even that. "You're gonna up and start reciting poetry one day and I'm gonna be shocked."

He didn't move away, staying still so she could keep her forehead on his shoulder and he wouldn't disturb the movements of her hand.

"It'll happen. And I bet it'll be hot too."
