Pixie Stix Cabin Roof [Sunday, Evening]

Effy didn't know any dead people. Not well enough to get any visitors the last couple days, anyway, and for that she was grateful. Her live and kicking relatives were more than enough for her to deal with.

Or they had been. Right now, she was hearing so little from any of them, it was... weird. Tony was on an island in South East Asia doing some kind of voluntary crap, her mum had skipped off to Italy with no return date in sight (and had already been there a week before she decided to mention this, in a voicemail no less), and when it came to her dad... Who the fuck knew. Either way, it meant a quiet few weeks. She'd claim until the end of time she didn't care but... she was here, and they all seemed to be forgetting she even existed. It was a shitty feeling.

She didn't have much to unpack, and even if she had she wouldn't be in the mood to do anything about it right now, and just being in a small cabin with eight other people with nothing to distract her wasn't really her speed tonight. Like it ever was.

So, brooding. Sulking. Smoking. Whatever. On the roof. No dead relatives or friends necessary.

[[It's a roof, so, you know... ooopen, if anyone else would clamber up there. Or wants to talk at her from down below. I'm bored.]]

"Nothing important." Next to Alex's problems, her family were looking pretty good. "I'm just... Thinking."

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-07-20 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"About?" he prompted, gesturing with one hand. "Come on, if I asked, it's important to me."

"Apparently mum's in Italy. Says Rome shits on Bristol from a height." It was obvious where Effy picked her language up from when you listened to her parents.

"What's she doing in Italy?" he asked. "Vacation?"

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-07-20 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Looking for Italian men to screw, probably," Effy replied wryly. "Healthier than drugging herself stupid, I guess."

"My father would disagree," he said, actually moving to sit closer to her, until his arms brushed hers. "Spent the entirety of my childhood with a needle in his arm. Surprised he didn't try and share with me."

Alex looked over at her quietly and reached to brushed some of her hair back. She'd done the comfort thing last time she'd seen him, he could do it now. "Pissed she's in Italy?'

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-07-20 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Effy twitched a shrug, staring out over the campsite. "Remembered to tell me eventually. That's something, right?"

It was less that she was there, more that she hadn't been told that got to her in the end.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-07-20 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That made things a little clearer and Alex moved to curl his hand around the back of her neck gently.

"Maybe she'll have a shitty vacation," he offered lightly. "Drink the wrong water and end up with malaria or some shit."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-07-20 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Or chlamydia." Actually, more likely. It was a drying amusing thought.

"They're all occupied all summer. Leaves me to my own devices. Can't complain."

Still didn't sound thrilled about being completely ignored, though, as used to it as she was. Always been the quiet one, while they focussed on Tony's latest stunt.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-07-20 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"And yet, you're up here, brooding." She was brooding. He knew brooding. "You might not wanna complain but you're pissed."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-07-20 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"This is me normally." Preferred to think of it as 'deep in thought' rather than brooding, but... Whatever. She was good at it.

Couldn't do anything about their busy lives without her, so she might as well bitch them out in her head and leave it at that.

"Told you, it's nothing important."

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-07-20 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Alex rolled his eyes and pulled his hand away, not feeling up to running into brick walls tonight with her.

"Fine, deal with it alone," he said flippantly. "I asked, I got denied. Whatever."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-07-20 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Effy sighed, already seeing this heading towards the same place it had earlier. "What were you asking then?" She'd missed the question in there, apparently. "Sure you've got free questions left. Use them if you want."

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-07-20 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, Jesus Christ, I'm not going to force you into answering questions like this," he said, irritated by the concept and not bothering to cover it up.

"I tried to hold a conversation with you about why you're up here," he reminded her, shaking his head, "and I got a 'it's nothing important.' That's bullshit and we both know it."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-07-20 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not exactly the end of the world, is it?"

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-07-20 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then, sit here and brood," Alex said, already getting to his feet. "I didn't leave you to to your own devices though. I'm not your fucking family."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2010-07-20 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
She half-formed a 'wait' as she turned to look at him, and abruptly halted herself before the sound came out.

A couple of moments later, she finally replaced it with a quiet, "I know." Much as they'd managed to argue about it already today. He didn't forget her.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-07-20 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
For a moment, Alex stopped and looked at her quietly.

"Be nice if you remembered that sooner before deciding that I didn't need to give a damn," he finally said before heading to climb down off the roof and head back to his stupid cabin.
