Room 323 [Thursday, Afternoon]

Her room felt bizarrely empty without Edward around, not that Effy would admit that out loud. Still, a week down the line with his stuff gone and the dorm lists changed, she was getting the feeling now, that he probably wasn't coming back.

So today, since she didn't really have anywhere else to be, was the day for rearranging and spreading herself out a little, and making the most of this having her own room.

Made it feel less empty, somehow, and gave her something to think about that wasn't what was going on at home, or certain other confusing moments of this week. Perfect, as far as she was concerned.

"Not really moving," Effy said, glancing towards the doorway to look at the girl. "Just... rearranging."

"Think my roommate left."

"Miss them, or glad for the extra space?" Didi wondered.

"I'm over there" -- she jerked her head to her own room -- "with Jaime. I'm still getting used to sharing."

Effy shrugged, putting one more book onto the shelves before making her way over to Did. "He was alright." Weird, but around here, that was relative. "Sang a lot."

"So, new neighbor, then?" She'd thought if she'd been here before she would've noticed.

"What kind of songs?" Didi asked. "And yeah, new neighbor. Didi. Nice to meet you."

"Not so much specific songs," she answered. "Just, about every day stuff. Dunno why."

"I'm Effy," she added after a moment.

"I have a sister who's like that when she's in a good mood," Didi offered. "Kind of ... relaxing in a weird way."

Which described Del's good moods in general.

"How long have you been here?"

"Beginning of the summer," Effy replied. "Not so long. About starting to get used to it." As much as she thought she ever would.

"Much longer, I might have to worry about picking up the accent."

"The weird stuff doesn't phase you?" Didi asked. "But I know what you mean. I think I'm starting to go native."

By which she meant she was starting to feel like a normal teenage girl more than like Death. That was ... unsettling.

"Sometimes," Effy allowed (it did). "Can't be prepared for everything that shows up in a place like this."

"... You don't seem too unnerved," she noted, a little curiously.

"I'm good at weird," Didi said, unconcerned. "Maybe I'll feel different when something big happens."

"Apparently I missed the last one by being a cat." Which considering she'd been psychotic blood drinking evil, by the one account she'd heard... probably a good thing.

"That would be a little weird even for me," Didi decided. "What was the last one like?"

"Alternate universes, vampires..." Effy shrugged. Alex had been relatively sparing on the details, strangely enough. "Not a good place. Think I was the lucky one."

"The alternate universe thing is the weird one for me even without vampires," Didi volunteered. "There's ... one universe. A lot of worlds, but only one universe. And then I come here and all of a sudden that's not true."

"Things you'll get used to being around this place," Effy said, shrugging. "Never had any of that, back home."

"Or you did and it was all underground," Didi suggested.

"... Maybe." Because Effy could hardly say she knew for sure.

"Bristol doesn't really seem the place for it, though."
