Room 323 [Thursday, Afternoon]

Her room felt bizarrely empty without Edward around, not that Effy would admit that out loud. Still, a week down the line with his stuff gone and the dorm lists changed, she was getting the feeling now, that he probably wasn't coming back.

So today, since she didn't really have anywhere else to be, was the day for rearranging and spreading herself out a little, and making the most of this having her own room.

Made it feel less empty, somehow, and gave her something to think about that wasn't what was going on at home, or certain other confusing moments of this week. Perfect, as far as she was concerned.

[[Door open, post open.]]

He was, and Effy, determined not to let anything show, looked away from him. Seemed like it was one of those days for driving each other crazy.

"Mark of a good night." Well, it was. That was the truth. "Shouldn't want to go home before morning."

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't tend to," he said, watching her carefully but pushing anything that wasn't sarcasm, flippancy and aloofness down and away. It proved difficult. "I'm glad you support my ways of having fun."

Or, you know, hated him for being such a jackass just because he was pissed off.

"I'd ask you to come along sometimes but you're too busy going out yourself and all."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
"We've managed to combine our fun nights out before, somehow." On the days when they weren't poking at each other like this.

"Worked out, didn't it?"

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
"I thought it did," he agreed with a slight shrug. "But you're the one who says she goes out a lot, maybe it didn't compare to your other excursions."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Effy lifted a shoulder herself. She wasn't looking at him still, but her lips twitched in a slight bit of a smile.

"Was pretty good," she allowed. For Effy, queen of the understatement, that was high praise. "Didn't get back before morning, did we?"

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"No," he said and pushed himself into a sitting position. She wasn't looking at him, he still felt the edges of anger and he had no idea what was going on. He shook his head and scrubbed his fingers through his hair. "No, we didn't. It was fun. It was good. Everything looks better in the mornings anyway."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Catching that movement, Effy glanced across at him. "Something about seeing it from that side. Better than waking up early for it."

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Poetic," he said and rubbed his eyes wearily. "I think it's just because I'm either drunk or hysterically exhausted that I just don't give a fuck. Who knows. I hate mornings still. Just not as bad as I hate other things."

"Hope you didn't pick any early classes, then," she remarked casually, regaining a little more of her normal confidence now they'd gone a couple of minutes without snapping.

Something fucking wrong with her at the moment, letting dumb things like that get to her. Had to get over that.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
"My classes are fine," he said, shrugging his shoulders and then rolling them to try and work some of the tension that had built up out of them. "They're in the beginning of the week, I get them over with, I have more time for the fun stuff."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Went and spread mine all out," she said, pulling a face. "But, guess at least I've got space between." Sticking with the safe subjects, yeah.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Something was definitely weird between them if they'd started talking about their respective classes just to get some stability back.

"For your very exciting nights out?" he asked, unable to stop the edge of sarcasm from showing itself there.

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Sometimes," she said, feeling pretty good about that one at least. Her nights out were fucking awesome. "Even the best of us need a break."

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
"I bow at your feet," he said, sarcastic again. "And today, you're moving furniture and being domestic. That's pretty adorable for someone who stays up all night, doing who knows what."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
"A rare sight," she assured him. "It'll be worth it, though." Look at all her space.

And hey, no roommate to sexile whenever it came to that. There were some great bonuses to this.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll take your word for it," he said and glanced around. "Want me to fuck off and leave you to it?"

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Unless you want to just sit there and watch." Sounded pretty boring though.

Somehow, she didn't think he'd want to do anything helpful. Hadn't gone for that option the last time.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't wanna play audience today," he said, already climbing off her bed and getting to his feet. "I've got less boring things I could be doing."

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
"So you keep telling me," she said without much heat, watching him stand and leaning back on her hands in the new space. "Full schedule and all."

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
"You keep thinking I have all this free time. I don't," he said, not looking back at her while he straightened his shirt. "Yeah, it's a full schedule."

It was...nowhere near full but he didn't know what was going on anymore. He was just all kinds of out of whack.

[identity profile] pastmewrong.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Amazing how tiring even a pretty short conversation between them could be sometimes. His refusal to look at her, definitely wasn't helping with that.

Whatever, right? She didn't care.

Yeah... Right.

At least this time she had the sense to shut up, and just keep her eyes on him, rather than make anything worse.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
And Alex knew she was looking at him and it made his shoulders tighten up with the strain of not looking at her. She'd said she didn't care, he said it back, gotta put up a good front, right?

Ugh.

"Don't have too much fun moving stuff around," he said, straightening his hair (really, his hair?) while he said that.

She huffed a little wry amusement as he fidgeted. Not like he'd even done anything much to fuck up his hair anyway.

"We'll see," she told him. "No guarantees." Tidying was such a party activity, after all.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
"See you later, Effy," he said, still not looking back at her as he moved towards the door and slipped out without another word.

Stupid fucking emotions. Stupid everything. Alex barely resisted the urge to punch a wall as he stomped down the hall and down to his room.
