Room 323 [Tuesday, Evening]

Looked like it was threatening rain outside, so Effy was staying in for once. Every girl needed a night off sometimes, even if they were few and far between for this one. She'd been out and got things done during the day, and to her, that should count for something.

So between the odd text to Tony (whose evening was going far more interestingly than hers), she was flopped back on the bed, holding the book she was reading up over her. She'd even got into it enough her hot chocolate had gone cold. That was actually kind of rare.

After spending some time bothering Rose at work, Alex came back to find his room empty. That meant he'd end up bored or listening to Christmas music soon so he went a wandering.

And look at that, a door he was familiar with that wasn't all the way shut. That was just begging for a knock. So, he knocked. And it wasn't even an annoying knock.

Not being an annoying knock definitely encouraged her to actually respond to it, rather than pretend she hadn't heard or wasn't there. Still, took a moment to ascertain what the chances were it was someone interesting.

"... Yes?"

Decided to risk it, apparently.

First off, he was plenty interesting, thank you. All around interesting and never not interesting. Second of all, now Alex had a decision to make. He could push the door open, show his face or he could keep knocking, see how long it took her to throw something at the door or curse. Both options were tempting.

Erring on the side of being polite, he went against intentional annoyance and kicked the door open a touch so he could lean against the frame and be seen.

"Is it like National Reading Week or something?" he wondered, pulling a face. "Everyone seems to be doing it."

"Apparently there's this thing called culture," she deadpanned. "Thought I'd try it out." Or she just liked reading from time to time. Wasn't completely illiterate, after all.

"Seems to be a popular thing to do this week," he replied, shrugging a shoulder. "If it doesn't have pictures, it's not really for me."

That was a slight lie since he did read, he just didn't read as much as some people.

"Preferably dirty ones, right?" Wild guess.

"Something wrong with that?" he wondered, shrugging. "There are articles in those type of magazines, you know. People who went to school and got good grades wrote 'em. That's cultural."

Effy shrugged herself. "Never said there was anything wrong with it," she pointed out. "Also never actually read anything in one of those." So she couldn't really comment.

"Just looked at the pictures and blushed?" he joked, pushing off the door frame and wandering in without an invitation. He could make himself comfortable when he wanted to. "I know how shy you are and all."

"Oh yeah," she said, smirking and just watching him for the moment. He apparently didn't need her to get up to feel at home. "All cute, innocent and blushy."

Or... you know, not.

"And I'm sure you only read the articles."

"Well, you are cute," Alex quipped, shooting her half a smile over his shoulder before leaning against her desk for the moment. "And I wouldn't lie so obviously and say I read them just for the articles. Be kind of stupid, wouldn't it?"

"Not the most subtle lie," she agreed, choosing to ignore his 'cute' jibe for the moment. "I wouldn't believe you." Come now, she did know Alex.

"Leave them lying around in the hope they'll educate your roomie?" Now that did sound like something he'd do.

"Porn scares Griff," he said, making that assumption off of the times he had tried to get Griff to read or watch porn. "So there'd be no point, really. He can buy his own fucking porn if he gets that curious about naked girls and can't find a girl to actually give him a practical demonstration."

"Mm. I think he's getting better." His ears didn't go pink like they used to when he saw her for a start, that was progress of a sort. Maybe he'd grow out of it.

Even managed not to flail when she kissed him.

"Really?" Clearly, Alex disagreed but he wasn't a girl so maybe he saw things differently. "I haven't seen much lately so maybe he's gone and grown a spine. Who knows, maybe he doesn't even need my help anymore. I can move onto bigger and better things."

Effy shrugged, curling a bit of a smile. "Seemed okay the last time I saw him."

"Bigger and better things like...?" she wondered.

"Last time I saw him, he was making me cook him a grilled cheese and then wanting me to make lists," Alex shared before pushing away from her desk and towards her bed.

As for his bigger and better things, he hadn't really decided on that yet. Still, he figured he could play it off. "Curious about if you're included in there or being nosy?"

"Just being nosy," she answered, smiling a little wider. "I think you have no idea." Not that Effy thought he'd admit that.

"Yeah, you always think that," he said, shaking his head. "I've got plenty of ideas, just no definitive plans. I've got time. Figured I could work it all out gradually. Why so nosy? Nothing better for you to do?"

"You're standing right there." Which made him prime material for her curiosity. He should know that by now.

"Could go back to my culture and ignore you if you want?"

"You could try," he replied, shrugging a shoulder, "but do you really want to? I'm standing right here and I don't think a book could hold your interest as well as I could."

"Depends if you're just going to stand there." Because that, she could probably ignore relatively successfully.

Temptation to look at him, while that was present, she had the ability to repress.

"Even just standing here, I'm still more interesting than anyone else," he decided, smirking because the statement demanded it. "Got something better for me to do?"

"Just saying. Maybe it's a pretty good book." And it might take more than just leaning there being himself to beat it.

Which wasn't an answer really, since she didn't really have an instant suggestion to throw back.

"Maybe it is," he agreed, sticking his hands in his pocket and nodding. "I'm still better."

Of course he'd think that. Come on.

"And I'm the one that's paying attention to you right now," he pointed out. "Not your book."
