Last class for the term finally out of the way, and it was really about time Effy started to think about her trip home tomorrow, and... well, the packing she had to do for it.

Sure, she probably had enough stuff back in Bristol to get by for a week, but an overnight bag at least might be a good idea, and she yanked one out from under her bed to throw a few things into.

If nothing else, she was looking forward to seeing Tony, maybe even Pandora, though she might be less likely to admit to that second one. The couple of things she actually missed about home were the people. That was something she'd never really imagined would be the case.

Effy considered that a moment grinning in the mischievous sort of way that should have immediately set off alarm bells.

"I've got just the place," she told him, and wandered to her desk to scrawl a name and address on a piece of notepaper to give to him.

"Think you'll gave a great time."

Edward started at that grin of hers. He recognized it. It gave him chills.

Um.

He accepted the paper, gladly, because joy! An adventure was to be had!

That grin of hers was pretty much forgotten. Sometimes his attention span was wee.

"Thank you! Adora and I are sure to enjoy ourselves and we'll owe it all to you!"

"Let me know how you find it," she told him, smile toned down slightly now.

It was probably a good thing she was going away for a week after this.

He tries, he really does.

"I will," he promised. "I'm certain to have excellent stories for you."

Of course, full eye contact was still avoided.

"Uh. Might I ask you a question? Of a more... uh, personal nature?"

"Can't guarantee I'll answer," she replied, cocking her head a little to try and catch his eye.

"But you can ask."

It was terribly hard to catch his eye. He preferred to stare at her chin, or shoulder, even her hair. Possibly her pillow, yes.

"Would you mind terribly if Adora came in here. To visit. Perhaps, all night long, while you're gone?"

Oh, so that was why he was looking so uncomfortable.

"If you want," she replied easily, grin getting a little wider. Aww. "Not like you can really sexile me if I'm not here."

What? Of course he asked about that one.

"You know, when you eject your roommate--" complete with an indication over her shoulder with her thumb "--to get laid."

Deep breath, Edward.

"Yes. That."

Effy grinned knowingly, and shrugged.

"Not like I wouldn't do the same."

He cocked his head. "I didn't know you had a boyfriend?"

Effy huffed a little amusement, and shook her head.

"I don't," she said simply. "Don't need a boyfriend for that."

Don't Edward... Do. Not. Go. There.

GASP!

"But... but Effy! You must not give yourself away!"

Effy arched her eyebrows, looking a little amused. A little bit late to be worrying about that now.

"I don't date well." Or, you know, get attached to people. It usually ended badly.

He narrowed his eyes. "These boys. They take advantage of you!"

He implied more than one boy, didn't he? His bad.

"I shall defend your honor! Tell me, was it... Hannibal?"

Oh, this was still so, so amusing to her right now.

For now, she was ignoring the implication that she was sleeping around. She'd been really fucking good lately. Just the one!

"You're going to defend my honour?"

"But of course!" Ah-hah! "I am a prince! It is my duty to protect the innocent!"

Effy was an innocent in her life at some point or another. It totally counted!

"Doesn't he have a girlfriend?" The brief couple of conversations they'd had, she'd gathered that.

"Yes, he does," he answered, with a frown. He might not like like Hannibal, but Edward could hardly see him cheating on Angela.

"But he could have taken your virtue before her!" He was smart!

"Barely know the guy," Effy told him. Just enough to hear about the size of Edwards junk from him.

... Or, what he thought the size might be. Near enough.

"Don't think he'll appreciate being hunted down for a talking to about my virtue."

Edward shrugged. "That means little to me if, er, the act was committed."

Cough.

He hasn't punched Hannibal in far too long.

"You should wait for your one true love, Effy!"

"Not really cut out for that True Love stuff," Effy told him. Her current situation was working out pretty well for her. All the high points, none of the risks of letting people get too close, and none of the maintenance of having an actual boyfriend.

"How do you know if you've never had one?" he asked.

"Feeling I've got," she replied, shrugging. "Relationships... they're messy and complicated. What I have works for me." Because what she and Alex had wasn't messy and complicated at all. Really.
