Room 323 [Saturday, Afternoon]

By mid-afternoon, it was getting a little too hot for her very pale British self to be anywhere outside (even if it was alligator free, now), so Effy was in the dorms, and in true antisocial spirit, in her own room. She hadn't honestly spent all that much time there since moving out of the cabins, so it was probably about time.

The door was open, which either showed some vague social improvement on her part, or possibly just that she was hoping for a bit of a breeze while she finally got around to unpacking properly. Probably the latter.

Anyway, there was that, and she was even occasionally pausing to get lost in her music for a minute. It was entirely possible she was happy in a less than natural sort of way.

It was a weekend, was there really any better way to spend her time?

"I'm impressed," he said, nodding and enjoying the view quite a lot. "It's doing me very well, thank you for asking. I'm very entertained."

"Well, thank you," she said, even grinning a bit. If you really thought she wasn't going to be just a little cheerful about being hot and appreciated, you'd be mistaken.

Alex was perfectly capable of giving credit where credit was due on occasion. He felt it was due here.

"If I had another shirt on, I'd take it off because I feel like I owe you now," he said after a moment. "Considering the entertainment you're providing right now."

And Effy could be nice on occasion! This was nice of her, yes?

"Entertainment. Right." She had to smirk a bit at that. "Have to remember this one next time you say I'm all talk."

"Hey, you could always entertain me some more if you're getting bored with me just staring at you," he suggested. "I'm interactive like that."

"Thought you were the one felt like you owed me some entertainment," she pointed out, taking a step nearer anyway.

"I made an empty suggestion and got no clever response in return," he reminded her. "I thought you just didn't want my entertainment anymore. And you seem to have a quip ready for anything I might suggest and when it didn't come, well, there we go."

Effy shrugged. "Don't have a quick retort for every situation, as it turns out."

Just most.

"I owe you some entertainment then," he said, tossing his shirt aside just to get it out of the way. "Special requests?"

"Make it good." She smirked challengingly. That was a request, if a vague one. He seemed to think her suggestions sucked for the most part anyway.

"How very vague of you," he said, pushing off the door and walking towards her. Personal space invading was a talent. "Make it good. Such a subjective term. Whose version of good? Yours? Mine? Someone else's?"

Not that he cared that much.

"We've been having a conversation while you're half naked," he pointed out. "I thought that was pretty damn good of me, not to do anything."

"Congrats on your restraint," she said, not really meaning it at all. "I'm impressed."

He wasn't the only one who could do a little personal space invasion when called upon, and Effy wasn't really complaining about this particular instance. "Pick one."

"You're not," he said, stopping just before touching her. Look at that restraint. "But, then again, we've already established that we're not into impressing each other."

It seemed to come up all the damn time.

"Tell me your version of good," he said after a moment's pause before moving against, stepping close enough that he was either going to bump against her or she'd have to move backwards towards her bed or desk or something.

Effy automatically took a half step back, still looking up at him. "I'm sure it's not too far different from anyone elses."

She gave a sort of lopsided shrug, holding her ground at that point. "Fun. Preferably memorable. I'm not talking the moral side of good."

"That doesn't surprise me," he said, taking another step toward her which pretty much brought them against each other since she'd stopped moving. He kept his hands at his sides for the moment. "Because you're not good."

It was comforting, really, to deal with someone like her compared to some of the other people he'd come across.

"You want something fun that makes you feel good," he said, lowering his voice some since they were that close and it didn't seem logical to stay loud. "And fuck the other person because they're not you. Simple if selfish."

The look on her face, said he was probably about on the money. She certainly liked people to think as much. It was something that worked for her, rather well.

"See, you get it," she said, matching his volume. "Not bad."

"Oh, well, thank you," he said, shrugging a shoulder. "Practice. The only thing that's wrong with your philosophy is that, for some things, you need another person to help you out with making you feel good."

At least, most of the good stuff.

"Times like that, are you just willing to share your fun?"

"Times like that," she repeated, smirking. "I am."

She wasn't entirely selfish, all the time. Usually when it suited her, but still. Counted, right?

"Are you?"

"Amazingly, I am," he said and smiled. "I can be a giver when I wanna be. Willing to share when sharing's merited. I haven't left yet, have I?"

"You haven't," she agreed, cocking her head a little as she looked at him. "That mean it's merited?"

"Yes." Anything more than an honest answer at this point would just seem like a waste. "That mean you don't want me to leave?"

"Haven't kicked you out yet," Effy pointed out. Which could probably be translated to 'yes'. Somehow.

This strange little standoff they had going on right now was rather amusing to her, in its way.

"It might be fun to see you try," he quipped, half smiling. "I'll take that as you not wanting me to leave. But, I don't think you wanna stand here shooting the shit for hours either, do you?"

"Neither do you." As restrained as he was being right now, she could guess that much. Testing his patience on this was all very well, but there was a point where it would get boring.

"Are you going to do anything about it?"

And Alex definitely wasn't a fan of boring even if he could demonstrate some remarkable patience sometimes.

"Move," he finally said, getting an arm around her and physically pulling her backwards while he stepped forward again. He could be done with this standoff and his patience for awhile now.
