Room 323 [Saturday, Afternoon]

By mid-afternoon, it was getting a little too hot for her very pale British self to be anywhere outside (even if it was alligator free, now), so Effy was in the dorms, and in true antisocial spirit, in her own room. She hadn't honestly spent all that much time there since moving out of the cabins, so it was probably about time.

The door was open, which either showed some vague social improvement on her part, or possibly just that she was hoping for a bit of a breeze while she finally got around to unpacking properly. Probably the latter.

Anyway, there was that, and she was even occasionally pausing to get lost in her music for a minute. It was entirely possible she was happy in a less than natural sort of way.

It was a weekend, was there really any better way to spend her time?

"And here I thought I was slow," Alex said, having started walking past the room and stopped since the person inside said room was familiar. "Wanna come unpack my stuff next?"

"And help you in your quest to be as lazy as possible?" she said, glancing over her shoulder to shoot him a look. "No."

"How do you know that's my quest?" Even if she was right and he was always questing to be lazy. "Maybe I'm just busy doing other things and I don't have time to unpack."

Effy stood, from where she had been sitting by a bag on the floor.

"Busy doing what?" she asked skeptically. Pretty confident in her 'lazy' analysis.

"I spent last night having a spirited discussion with some girl about the aftermath of those alligators," he bullshitted. It was true, in the sense that there was threatening going on. That counted as spirited.

"And by 'spirited discussion', you really mean argument, right?" she guessed. Just a hunch. He seemed to piss people off a lot.

"Now, why would you think that?" he wondered, leaning against the frame of the door. "I don't think it was an argument at all."

"Why wouldn't I think that?" she shot back, smirking a little. "Not exactly all sweetness and light."

"If it was an argument, it was one sided," he said and shrugged a shoulder. "I was too busy getting drunk off my ass. She could have cried and I wouldn't have cared."

`And you wonder why you get threatened on radio," Effy said dryly. Hey, it wasn't like she wouldn't do something very similar, but it had to be said.

"Have a good drunken evening?" she asked.

"It was better than going out and acting like a stupid shit in front of those alligators," he decided because seriously. "Doesn't mean it was good but I wasn't anyone's damn dinner either."

"Congrats on your continued survival," she said. "You're smarter than most people around here, from what I saw."

Which was a lot of muddy, alligator-covered people. Disgusting.

"One of my teachers was trying to keep one as a pet."

"What fun would being dead be, right?" he asked, smiling some. "And what, he couldn't just get a pet rock?"

Effy shrugged. "Missing that dangerous edge?" she guessed. "Nothing like a giant fucking lizard on your desk to keep the students in line."

Well, she wouldn't have gone near the thing if you'd paid her.

"Pleasant," he said and shook his head. "And how are you? Having fun?"

"Could be having more fun," she allowed, lips twisting in a bit of a smile. "But like you said, didn't end up lunch, can't complain too much."

"You got a thing for my doorframe?"

"Is that an invitation?" he asked, leaning forward and cupping a hand around his ear. "I couldn't really tell."

"Stop fucking loitering and come in." Was that better? She thought it was better.

"You've really got a talent for words," Alex said, pushing off the doorframe and wandering inside. "I'm surprised your not a poet."

"You wanted the clarification," she said, shrugging and leaning back against her desk.

"And who says I'm not a poet?" She could be. You know, provided it didn't involve any of that emotional crap.

"Recite me a poem," he said, waving a hand. "Let's hear it, then. If you're a poet, prove it."

"What, just spill my innermost poetic thoughts?" Effy shook her head. "Best you'll get is me throwing in some rhyming with my witty conversation."

"I just don't think you can," he decided easily. "Talk talk talk talk, no action."

"You were the one commenting on poetic potential," she pointed out, leaning back on her hands with a smirk.

"And I could, if I actually wanted to. Unfortunately for you, I don't feel the need to prove myself."
