Room 323 [Saturday, Afternoon]

By mid-afternoon, it was getting a little too hot for her very pale British self to be anywhere outside (even if it was alligator free, now), so Effy was in the dorms, and in true antisocial spirit, in her own room. She hadn't honestly spent all that much time there since moving out of the cabins, so it was probably about time.

The door was open, which either showed some vague social improvement on her part, or possibly just that she was hoping for a bit of a breeze while she finally got around to unpacking properly. Probably the latter.

Anyway, there was that, and she was even occasionally pausing to get lost in her music for a minute. It was entirely possible she was happy in a less than natural sort of way.

It was a weekend, was there really any better way to spend her time?

"And what sort of repayment do you want?" he asked. "And don't ask me to be a circus sideshow."

"And asking you to put that lot away, just going to get me dirty looks, right?" she guessed. Worth a try, though.

"Yes," he said. Dirty looks and probably some tossing of the clothing into the hallway. "I got you halfway to unpacking. You can do the rest. I know you're capable."

"What about getting nice view in return?" Why the hell not.

"Oh look, one I can actually do without wondering if you've got a kink for circus freaks," he said, reaching for his shirt but not tugging it off just yet. "And here I don't have a shirt to wear. It's not going to make you all blushy here, is it?"

He knew it wouldn't. Seriously, he wasn't that dumb.

"Nothing I haven't seen before," she said, looking a little amused at the very idea she might be made awkward by that sort of thing.

"It's good to check," he said and pulled off his shirt. "Because I'm just that much of a polite guy."

He was not polite at all.

"Liar," Effy said, perfectly happy with this arrangement where she got to check him out.

"Think if I'd said it made me uncomfortable you'd be more likely to do it."

"...maybe," he admitted because she was pretty much right. "But, really, are you that polite? I think not. You'd sooner cut me then say something nice."

"I can be nice," she claimed. "I just save it for when I really mean it. Nothing wrong with that."

"Hey, if you can be nice, I can be nice," he said and draped his shirt over his shoulders. "Threats notwithstanding. I'm being nice to you."

Or maybe they were just being mutually sarcastic and snarky and canceling each other out.

"You are." Sort of. As close to nice as either of them got most of the time, anyway. "Very... entertaining." Or something.

"Hey, I've got my shirt off," he said, gesturing to himself. "It'd better be somewhat entertaining. And nice. You got to put a shirt on, I'm still half naked."

"Cold or something?" That was the only reason she could see for complaint.

"Why, you wanna keep me warm?" he asked, amused.

"Oh, yeah I'm such a warm cuddly sort, caring about your keeping your temperature up," she said with a smirk.

"No."

"Oh, too bad," he said and shook his head. "Body heat's a fun, fun thing."

"Even on a day like this?" She was less sure when it came to that. She wasn't really used to this kind of heat on a regular basis.

"That's what air conditioning is for," he pointed out. "It's not like we're outside."

"Yeah, there's a reason I'm not out sunning myself right now."

Poor little pale English girl. She might fry.

"Yeah, you're pretty ghostly," he joked, glancing down at her. "Good thing I didn't get all blinded when you took off your shirt."

"Prefer to call it English rose," she said. "And you weren't complaining."

"I didn't say it was bad," he pointed out, snickering. "But, hey, you can just take off the shirt all the way and prove it to me."

"Have my limits when the door's wide open," she told him with a smirk.

They were fairly high limits to most people. But... limits.

"I can shut the door," he offered with a smirk of his own. "Amazingly, I can be helpful every once in awhile."
