Tonight's election wasn't something Effy could say she was particularly invested in. Wasn't like she was in the country, and she couldn't think it was going to affect her much here.

Besides, they all talked complete shit most of the time anyway. Politicians for you.

And yet... Stretched out on her bed, laptop on, with the BBC website in the background as she threw the odd IM back and forth with Tony. He could vote, that was her reasoning for why it apparently meant more to him.

"It would be shit," Alex said a few moments before swatting her back lightly with his hand and then making sure she'd know what she'd be missing if she did move on by kissing her none too gently.

They were definitely unusual, in that a comment like that managed to bring out the sort of response Effy approved of completely. Approved of, and also returned, grinning only briefly against his mouth before she put a little more effort in herself.

Nah, she wasn't really planning on skipping to anyone else who might be willing.

And he'd be glad to know she wasn't planning on skipping to anyone else if he hadn't been too busy kissing her. Nothing wrong with making certain she'd want to stick with him, though.

Really, they'd been all over each other a lot more than they'd been fighting lately. Maybe something was in the air but Alex kind of preferred it this way.

Fighting with him was a lot of fucking effort, emotionally exhausting, and felt kind of shit.

This... wasn't any of those things. A vast improvement. Fun, and easy, and natural to just slip right back into it, hugging her arms around him. She could probably still push the right buttons to set things off, but more often than not, chose not to.

Alex was glad for that considering he'd had a relatively short fuse as of late and even when he'd been in moods of his own, had mostly calmed down when she'd come around. It was an interesting influence she had on him.

And, right now, he wasn't even kissing her with the aim of getting any further. He was just kissing her because it felt good and it brought him closer to her and he really did like the feel of her lips against and under his.

For two people who claimed their... whatever they were calling this not!relationship, was all about sex (and okay, it got a nice big part, because with these two it was never not going to be way up there), they did manage to spend a surprising amount of time together on... not sex.

Alex rolled them a little until the upper half of his body was mostly covering hers and he could pull back a bit, grin down at her like he was the winner in this situation.

No idea why.

He kissed her again before she could make a smart comment and let each hand find hers, pinning them loosely to the bed but keeping his hold there.

Yeah, Alex would always believe he was the winner in these situations. Smug prick.

But, you know, smug prick that she liked a whole lot... So she'd just be threading their fingers together and curling to touch his knuckles as she leaned up a little into that kiss.

He was an entertaining smug prick, though. And he never let her get bored so he figured his good qualities outweighed his bad. Or his good qualities just meshed well with his bad.

Whatever. He wasn't going to be philosophical when she was all warm and responsive underneath. He squeezed each of her hands, slowing the kiss just for a change of pace and drawing it out lazily and, well, almost sweetly.

And he pretended he wasn't a softy. The liar. Effy was just going along with it, which made it far less squishy on her part. Really.

... Look, she just wasn't going to call him on it. He should appreciate that, at least. Far too busy enjoying it and sliding her foot up the leg he'd slipped around hers for that.

Yes, he did appreciate her not pointing out that he could, at times (and those times were very rare), be somewhat of a soft touch. If she had, he'd gladly bring up the fact that she took pictures for him and put them on his phone without his prompting. Who was a softie, now?

But, he didn't. His mouth was way too busy what with kissing her lingeringly, enjoying how he could really feel how her lips and mouth felt under his what with the slow, lazy pace. He squeezed her hands again and ignored his soft side. So there.

The way she was smiling right now might be a little, but she'd never call it that. See, all that was needed to brighten her up in the short term was giving her a make out session. Not so tough, right?

Oh no, the dirty pictures definitely weren't soft but her doing it for him without any nagging or pleading was soft. She'd done it because she wanted to. That was soft.

Alex caught that smile and couldn't help one of his own. He didn't let go of her hands though, kept his fingers laced with hers and quietly asked, "What're you smiling at? Looking pleased with yourself."

Effy twitched her shoulders in a vague non-committal shrug as she looked back up at him. "Put me in a good mood." Simple, actually truthful, answer right there. And no drugs or alcohol required.

"So are you." Had to be pointed out.

"Sometimes I can be a good influence," he said, pleased with hearing her say that. He ducked down and kissed her quickly again before rolling off to the side, keeping an arm and a leg across her and keeping that smile.

"You said before that my smile's hot," he reminded her, going way back for that compliment. "If I find a reason, I'll smile."

So, he'd found one.

Pretty good reason, if she did think so herself, and it was still hot. Effy nodded, tracing her fingertip lightly along the line of his lower lip, one corner of his mouth to the other. "... Don't know about 'good influence'." This was Alex they were talking about.

"I made you smile." By making out with her and, really, Alex thought that was a fucking great way to influence her. "What sort of influence would you call that?"

"Fun?" Effy suggested, tapping her finger gently at the corner of his lips. "Just think good might be the wrong implication."

"I'll take fun," he decided, turning so he could kiss that finger since it was so close to his lips and all. "Wouldn't want you thinking I've got some halo hidden somewhere."

"Traded it for a pack of smokes," he said, nodding solemnly. "I think I got the better end of the deal. It just kept getting in the way of all the fun shit I like doing."

"And the polishing sounds like a fuckload of effort too," she remarked, dragging her finger down his chin, and shifting comfortably closer.

"And you know how lazy I can be," he replied, smiling slowly at her. He curled his arm tighter around her when she moved closer, making no surprise of his enjoyment of that. Snagging another brief kiss, he said, "Think I'll stick to my naughty ways. They seem to be more fun."

Effy nodded briefly, "You stick with yours, I'll stick with mine." Worked out for both of them.

"Sounds like a good fucking plan," Alex agreed, sighing and shutting his eyes. More out of being really goddamn relaxed and comfortable than anything else. Kind of wanted to keep feeling that for awhile.

"I think you're suiting me pretty well right now," he drawled, smiling easily. "I think I'm gonna stick around for awhile. You'll have to live with it."
