Room 323 [Monday, Afternoon]

Funny how what felt like hours of throwing the girl around yesterday had barely put a dent in her energy, and yet an early morning and an hour or so of class today had completely exhausted her. Maybe it was getting her into to plenty of leapfrog and hopscotch... Or maybe it was learning not to go along with endless requests for tea parties and sugar.

Well, whatever, Adele was currently crashed out asleep with her mouth open, and using Effy as a cushion. Tempted as she was to sneak off for a smoke, for now, she was basically stuck, cause moving was only going to wake her up again. It was actually quiet. Hadn't got that for the best part of a weekend. It was something to make the most of for however long it actually lasted.

Meantime, her phone was going to have to do for entertainment. People to text, games to play... few pictures to take (yeah yeah, of her kid). That sort of thing.

"You think your dad would come after me?" Alex wondered, still sounding amused. "I've had dads after me before, you know. I'm pretty adept at getting away, hiding or talking my way out of it."

"Betting you haven't had to talk your way out of a kid yet," she guessed, indicating Adele's dozing form. "How'd you do that?"

"Tell him we adopted out of the kindness of our hearts," Alex said, shrugging. "Wouldn't that make us compassionate people?"

"Any likeness, purely coincidental," Effy remarked with a twitch of her smirk. "Don't think that'd get you off the hook." It wouldn't. Not that she thought it would be anything other than a lot of yelling. But it would be a lot. "New curses would be invented in your honour."

"Why?" Alex asked, chuckling. "I'm not that bad at this. I'm better than my old man which is saying a fucking lot. Your dad could do worse in the department of a guy that knocked up his daughter."

"Could be a fucking prince and he wouldn't like you for it." Like that was any surprise. That was any parent's reaction to a pregnant teenage daughter. "Probably better than him, too." After watching Adele shift and sigh in her sleep, Effy thought to lower her voice a little for her, "Go you."

"Yeah, let's not let that out for public consumption," Alex said, making a face. "I'd rather avoid people asking me why I've got a knack for taking care of kids. Not the greatest collection of memories."

"Should know I'm good at secrets by now." She wouldn't go spreading that one, much as she might tease. There were certain things better left mysterious. She tapped her temple. All in there and staying there.

"She might tell people," Effy said, motioning downwards. "Seems like a sharer."

"Well, I don't expect her to be around for too long," Alex said bluntly. He shrugged a shoulder. "And if she does, I'll lie that she was lying and really, who are people gonna believe? Me or a cute kid?"

Effy arched her eyebrows as if to ask if that was really a question.

... And if he really thought anyone would answer 'him' to that question.

"What, you honestly think they'd seriously believe a kid?" Alex asked, making a face. "Come on."

"She is cuter than you." That was undeniable. People tended to trust the sweet and innocent.

However much she smirked and told him he was fucking adorable to get a reaction, she was probably the only one to say so.

"That is because she's a kid," Alex enunciated, making another face. "That doesn't make her more honest. Everyone was cute as a kid. That doesn't mean they maintained that when they got older."

"I've heard kids are more truthful. Less filters." Not every kid was an Effy sort who clammed up and gave people nothing. Most of them said everything that entered their little heads.

"Less embarrassment. Less likely to think about what other people might do with what they say."

"Do you want this kid out there, telling all my secrets and then watching people laugh at me?" Alex asked, raising an eyebrow. "I'd have to tell them that you were involved in the tea party too, you know."

Effy shrugged, with an air of complete nonchalance. "So what if people know?" she wondered. "I was indulging a tiny child. How horrible of me."

"And got to see you play tea parties. Totally worth it."

"I was not playing tea party," he argued, shaking his head. "I was the server. I was like a male barista. There were no tea parties or tea cups or doilies or anything like that touching me."

What a liar.

The smug look on Effy's face portrayed approximately how much she agreed with that statement.

"It's too late. Been corrupted now. Never again can you say you're a tea party virgin." She was sure he'd used that phrase so often up to now.

"I'm gonna take a picture of this scene right here and see about sending it to your friend back home," Alex told her, already reaching for her phone. "What's her name? Pandora? I bet she'd loved it."

"Fuck off. You can't retaliate for something I haven't done," she told him, and reached to try and smack his hand away in the least disturbing way possible (for the sake of the napping child on her lap, not him).

Making the mere suggestion did not count as action or guilt.

"This is plenty nice!" Alex decided, managing to take a few shots with his phone before she'd smacked at his hand. "I think everyone deserves to see this softer side of you."

"This is the side of me wants to preserve my peace and quiet," she countered. "What's wrong with that?" Yes, it was also the softer side, but she preferred to play up other aspects.

"I'm just a little more... circumspect, with my definition of 'everyone'." Basically limiting it to him. Possibly her roommate should he appear.

"Did I say there was anything wrong with it?" Alex wondered, amused at her slight defensiveness. "No, I did not. I'm just pointing it out since you're pointing out my tea parties."

"I never threatened to tattle on your new love of girly games," she pointed out. Just... reminded him that she'd seen it. Because that was fun. "Promised I'd keep your kid-friendly tendencies to myself, didn't I?"

"Yes, but who knows if you'll work your evil ways through the kid?" Alex asked, raising an eyebrow. "You could be that evil."
