Room 323 [Thursday, Afternoon]

Most days, Effy found issues could be pretty easily buried. She was practiced, good at it, and spending time away had helped. Skiing wasn't her, snowboarding, hot tubbing, relaxing. It wasn't really her. Actually it was easier not being her.

But. Reality had slowly leaked back in, and there were days like today, when she let her guard down and dreams of other places slithered in and got comfortable and brought friends, and bothered her. A lot.

Without class today to take her mind off things, she had to make her own entertainment. Shift her focus away from whatever shit was taking up space in her mind. No, today she had a... project.

Effy could be surprisingly productive when she was thrown into the right -- or possibly wrong, mental state. She should probably be considering what Peter would think of her new decorative impulses. Whatever. It was a little marker pen, and on her side of the room at least.

"It's not really drawing," Effy pointed out. Most of the outline was there. It was just a case of filling in. That and a little bit of creativity when it came to words.

"Just be dirty. Good at that, right?"

"How could you even ask me that?" Alex asked, pretending to be oh so offended. "When am I not good at being dirty? I'm even dirty in my sleep. My dreams are dirtier than the dirties fantasies."

"Well. You seemed... hesitant," she noted, a little amusement creeping in at his offense. "Not like you."

She shrugged again, leaning back against her desk to watch what he did. "Had to check."

"I wasn't hesitant, I was inquisitive," he corrected, tapping his pen against his cheek. "I didn't wanna jump in and ruin your art. I was fact gathering before volunteering my services."

That was a load of bullshit but bullshit was what he did best sometimes.

Effy huffed a little laugh. "Didn't volunteer either. I volunteered you." At this point, she was assuming he was buying thinking time.

"Think I need the perfect dirty word from you?" She was starting to scrape the barrel a little herself at this point.

"The perfect dirty word?" Alex repeated, looking thoughtful. "Got blow job? Hand job? Head?"

"Head and blow, definitely," she answered. "Not so sure about the hand." There were a lot of words in there, and she'd been a little zoned out when she was at it.

"Can go for that if you want."

"You missed hand job?" he asked, tsking her lightly. "How could you miss that. Those are so much fun."

He leaned over the paper and started neatly scrawling 'hand job' carefully. "Where'd all this want of dirtiness come from?"

"What? Can't believe I'd think like it?" Like Effy didn't have dirty thoughts. That was about as ridiculous as questioning his.

"Didn't say that but I didn't think you'd put them in an art project," he said, finishing his writing. "I didn't think you had that sort of creativity in you."

"My secret talent," she whispered, moving away from the desk again. "Don't tell."

It... wasn't. Kind of shit at art, to be honest. Just had a bit of a thing for words, despite not saying much.

"I'm gonna spread it around to everyone I know," he said, smirking and adding a few more words (deep throat, sixty nine) before glancing back up at her. "You'll be thought of as an arts and crafts nerd for the rest of your time here."

Oh yeah, that was going to kill her rep. Effy rolled her eyes and wandered over to trace the edge of the shape with her finger. "I'll live. Least I'm not sticking macaroni to the walls."

"Yet," he said and wiggled his pen once he'd stopped writing. "I think the next step is making houses with popsicle sticks or making necklaces out of seashells."

Effy pulled a face. "Fuck that." She was not that far gone. Impulses to fill the walls with words was one thing. "I'm not seven."

"That mean you won't be making me any clay ash trays as a gift?" Alex wondered, smirking. "No ceramic animals to decorate my room?"

Effy shook her head, tapping her wall lightly. "Keep dreaming." Not happening, no. "You want cutesy... Find someone else." From Effy, anything cute was very rare.

"What if I don't want cutesy?" Alex asked, amused. "What will you give me if I give up on cutesy?"

"Wall porn?" she suggested, indicating her own little mural. "Apparently, good at that."

"You're not bad even if you did have to ask for my help," he teased, waggling his eyebrows. "Couldn't do it without me."

"Your artistic genius. I needed it." Yeah, he had loads of that. The sarcasm was strong.

"Was the pull of unfinished art brought you up here, right?"

"Nope, curiosity," Alex said, shrugging. "And since I wasn't doing jack shit, I thought a trip up a few flights of stairs to satisfy my curiosity wouldn't kill me."

"Curiosity satisfied?" she wondered, cocking her head as she looked at him.

"You don't even know what I was curious about so why would you think it was satisfied?" Alex wondered, amused. "You a mind reader now?"

"If I was, I wouldn't be asking," Effy pointed out. She didn't have to know what he was curious about to ask if he'd fulfilled whatever curiosity he'd had.

"What were you curious about?"
