Tonight's election wasn't something Effy could say she was particularly invested in. Wasn't like she was in the country, and she couldn't think it was going to affect her much here.

Besides, they all talked complete shit most of the time anyway. Politicians for you.

And yet... Stretched out on her bed, laptop on, with the BBC website in the background as she threw the odd IM back and forth with Tony. He could vote, that was her reasoning for why it apparently meant more to him.

"Oooh, rite of passage," Alex said, nodding his understanding of that, at least. Not that he'd thought about his own ability to vote now that he was eighteen. He didn't much care.

"Maybe he's the nerd of the family," he added, smirking. "And you're just his tiny, loyal sidekick."

He probably was. Effy didn't really have much commitment to anything academic, where Tony actually did. There was a reason most of those weird books she read were ones she'd picked up from him.

However, despite the truth of that first statement, she objected to being referred to as a tiny sidekick, and shot Alex a sideways look. "No." Just no.

"How very succinct." Alex wasn't phased though. He just smiled slowly up at her before turning himself around, back against the side of her bed and legs stretched out. That meant he could let his head rest back against the bed. Much better.

"Holding conversations with you is always a joy, Effy," he said but he sounded more amused than anything. "Fine, you're not a sidekick but you are tiny. Sorry, that's just how it is. I kind of like you tiny though. Easier to lift up."

Plus for a lot of things, that.

She could take tiny, but did so with a bit of an eyeroll and the tapping out of a nice and vague 'talk to you later' to Tony before nudging the laptop away.

"Who knew being pocket-sized was such a pro. Didn't know you had all these urges to carry me around."

"I have urges to do a lot of things," he said, shrugging and not really answering that question completely. "I had the urge to come down and see you so I did. You, apparently, had a creative urge a few days ago and found an outlet for that."

It took a good few moments for Effy to click what creative urges he might be referring there, but a little smirk emerged when she did. "You prefer I kept those all in?"

"I don't think I said anything like that," he replied, turning to glance back at her and that smirk. His phone was all the more important to him now what with all her creativity contained in there.

"It would have been even more fun if you'd let me be there when you got creative," Alex said, tsk'ing lightly. "I'm pretty good with artistic things."

"Would've ruined my surprise." Didn't think he'd tell her it hadn't been fun stumbling across something like that. "Couldn't have that, however expert your photography."

"I just found them earlier today," he said and laughed. "If I hadn't been dicking around with my phone, might have been even longer. And he would have kept that secret and just been your typical smug self with your smug secret."

He would have done the same damn thing, yep.

"You are pretty hot." It wasn't like he hadn't told her that before but it bore repeating. "What made you do something like that for me? Sudden sweet streak?"

Effy hitched a shrug. "Like you said. Creativity needed an outlet." And maybe, just maybe, she could do things for other people sometimes. Just because she felt like it.

But she wasn't going to cop to that. Of course not.

Of course not. And he didn't expect anything like that either. If Alex thought about it, he could probably figure out that she'd done it for him just because but he'd never point that out.

Whatever the reason why, Alex wasn't going to thank her with words. Because that wasn't what he did (often) and it made him feel awkward. Instead, he got back to his knees and leaned up, reaching for a kiss because she was right there and he wanted to and he could.

Well. When there was appreciation like that, it made letting a hint of her softer side shine through that bit more worthwhile. She'd kind of wondered if he'd push it just to tease her, but apparently not. Wasn't about to complain about that.

Preferred scenario right here where she didn't have to justify her giving moment, and could just kiss him and enjoy it, and maybe brush his cheeks with her fingers, a little idle touching for her.

Truth be told, he'd thought about teasing her about it and making needling her a little about being a giant teddy bear where he was concerned but he'd stomped that idea pretty quickly.

Sure, it'd wind her up but it might make her less likely to do things like that in the future and he liked when he got little surprises like that.

Going with this was turning out so much better and while he'd intended that kiss to be light and brief, he got a little caught up and lingered longer than planned, encouraged by her touching and how good this always felt.

This? Far more likely to encourage a repeat of that kind of thing.

Few moments longer, and she broke away enough to smile and mutter out, "What is it with you and floors?" Had to notice the slightly unusual angle here. She was higher than him!

She was higher than him and that was very rare! Benefit of being a generally tall teenager. It meant he was higher and could get away with calling her tiny.

"I like floors," he answered which explained absolutely nothing. "You like desks, I like floors. And maybe I was trying to be different."

That explained a little more.

"Want me somewhere else?"

Effy shook her head slightly, just looking amused and not moving away. Being higher than him was actually pretty fun.

"Can sit wherever you want to." If he liked the floor, he could have the floor. "Obviously like it down there... I'll let you stay." How generous she was.

Incredibly generous. Alex laughed and leaned a little closer again, snagging another brief kiss before pulling back and nodding. Staying on the floor wasn't so bad. He'd just lean on her bed, be comfortable that way.

"Been having a good week?" he asked. "Missed me?"

"Been a bit relaxing," she answered, letting her hand drop to rest of his shoulders. "Ignoring the fucking annoying mariachi band." They seemed to think it was awesome fun to stalk her, for whatever reason.

"Laziness is always ace with me," Alex said, moving forward again so he could press a kiss under her chin and against her neck. "And I'm not surprised to hear a group of men are following you around. You're pretty wanted. They just have to get in fucking line."

"And deal with the line not getting any shorter." Getting a little stuck on number one. Didn't feel bad about it either. "Sure they just thought I needed perking up or something."

"Have you needed cheering up?" Alex wondered, peering up at her. He hadn't listened to radio constantly, only hearing things here and there, but he couldn't remember anything bad. "Something up?"

Effy shook her head. "Actually not bad," she said, circling one finger on his neck. But then, you compared her to most people around here, and she hardly came off as some little ray of sunshine. It was all relative.

"Like I said. Relaxing." No classes, no big drama... She'd avoided any goodbyes like the plague. That helped. "Whole summer to enjoy, right?"

"Workshops start fairly soon," he reminded her, smirking because he could. And while they were never that tough, they were still classes. And that mean possibly getting up early.

"Got stuff planned for the summer?" he wondered. "Or does it all just fall under the relax, laze around, smoke, drink and sex umbrella?"

"Might add 'party' to that list?" Otherwise, sounded a pretty fucking good plan to her. "But yeah, that's pretty much it.

"And maybe show up to the odd workshop." Because believe it or not, she didn't particularly want to get thrown out of this school.

"Parties fall under drinking for me." Well, it wasn't like the alcohol policy was all that strict here. People liked their booze. "Gonna make time for me? I feel so left out of all those plans of yours."
